"Mod Toronto" Walking Tour (1.5 Hours)

Service Description

TORONTO MOD - 1950s to 70s (plus a little Art Deco and 80s too!) Beginning at Viljo Revell's 1965 City Hall, Irma will take walkers south to Mies van der Rohe's Toronto-Dominion Centre as well as showing work by I.M. Pei, Edward Durell Stone, and Santiago Calatrava. Walking south, tour-goers will view work by English ex-pat Peter Dickinson and the famous dog fountain at Berczy Park before taking a pit-stop for a pint in the famous Gooderham (Flatiron) Building (The Flatiron: A Firkin Pub). Continuing the tour, walkers will view Market Square to learn about local legend Jerome Markson, find out where the secret IBM Datacentre was, tour a little-known series of Jewish artworks at Queen and Victoria, and learn about some non-mod heritage buildings as they wend their way back to Nathan Phillips Square. Irma promises plenty of sass and architectural gossip, but most of it will be about dead architects who can no longer fight back or sue her. While Irma will be wearing heels, she encourages walkers to wear comfortable shoes for the tour. SECOND SUNDAY OF EVERY MONTH - 1 PM to 2:30 PM (Rain date the Saturday before)
